The Chubby

Last year, I shot a video on how to tie the Chubby Chernobyl.  It has gained a reputation over the last few years as a great attractor pattern.  It's easy to tie, to see and floats a dropper with ease.   This is one way to tie it and may not be the original way it was tied.  I do not know who created this pattern, but have heard that several people take credit for it.  I take credit for doing this video.  Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to learn how to fish this on the Arkansas River with me.

An interview with Hopper Juan

Here is a video that was done this past winter.  It helps to expand on the pattern know as the Hopper Juan.  I explain it's design, and it's capabilities as well as show it step by step.  I hope you enjoy!

FlyTyingLessons.com is going to be a great site for fly tying videos, but as of right now, it is still in the building process.  I'll follow up once it is done.  Gary T. of Colorado is the creator of this site and he produced this professional video.  Watch it in HD if you can.

The Juanna Be

As a follow up to the Royal Gorgeous, here is the Juanna Be Hopper Juan.  The little brother of the HJ, it's designed for the smaller streams and smaller fish that live in them.  It still has a good amount of foam and float-ability so it can hang with the big boys, or maybe I should say that it can hold up some big boys!  Throw on a Royal Gorgeous and fish some of the smaller pockets and seams and see what happens.  You might be surprised!

This is the little brother to the full grown Hopper Juan.  It is designed for early and later in summer when fish have seen all the big hoppers that all the companies tie and sell.  It pretty easy to tie, give it a try.

Extended Body Foam Green Drake

Since is is getting very close to that time around here, I figured some might appreciate me posting the video for Ben's Green Drake.  I have tied this fly before and made it come out very close to the patterns from MFC, but I knew that I was missing something as the tail material was really loose and there had to be a better way to secure them and keep them from coming off once I tied the body to the hook.  I asked Ben if he could tie this pattern when he was down for Ghillies Fly Shop's anniversary party a few weeks ago and he said he would.  I am so appreciative that he did since he had planned to tie streamers.  Watching him tie his own patterns was great. I learned a lot of new tricks and learned how he secures the tailing material on the extended body.    While watching the video, note that he does not cut the long tag end from the needle. He leaves it long and uses it to snug up everything once he pulls the body off the needle.  Try it  a few times and see what a genius he was by doing this.   Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions.  I might be able to answer a few. :)

Working with Foam Tying Class 12/18/09

Foam flies are some of the easiest flies to tie. This class is designed to make it fun and easy to tie durable patterns. Learn to tie the Club Sandwich, Hopper Juan and Amy’s Ant. These patterns are fun to tie and even more fun to fish. The Club Sandwich is a bigger fly that passes as a hopper or stonefly, the Hopper Juan is a hot new hopper pattern that works well as an attractor and stonefly pattern. The Amy's Ant is a great general all around attractor that passes for a caddis, ant, stonefly or hopper. The class will cover types of foam, how to cut foam bodies and how to glue and make sandwiched foam bodies. This will be a fun class to take and make sure you bring your kids. They tie for free. Limited to 6 students so call Gary to sign up. Step by step flies projected on HDTV. Cost $25.00
