MFC River Camo goodies.

Montana Fly Company has been cranking out new items every year and the new stuff this year is great.  I just ordered some new goodies from their River Camo line up.  If you haven't looked at what they offer, make sure to check out their web site and see what else they have.  Make sure to get those wish list over to mama so maybe you got a chance at getting something under the Christmas tree.   That is, only if you have been a good little fly fishing boy.

Maddox's "Snack" Aluminium Fly Box

Udesen's Hopper Fly Box

Udesen's Hopper Fly Box Waterbottle

Tungsten Carbide Nippers-"Snack"

This box is awesome!

And this one is too!

Just like the fly box, this one is one of my favorite  series.

MFC Sponsored giveaway.

Here's the deal.  First, you first should be a follower of this blog.  On the right side, below the blog roll is a place to click and follow The Hopper Juan so you don't miss any upcoming announcements.  You then have to leave a comment here listing one off your favorite blog posts from where ever you choose to cruise the web.  Just make sure it is useful and something good to look at!  It can't be from your own blog either.  So what is the prize?

Some swag from Montana Fly Company.  MFC provided some really cool stuff and enough of it to last a few giveaways.  Included in this package is some Henry Fork HackleMidge Flash, Fish Eyez, Lucent Beads and a Small Waterproof Fly Box.  This is certainly worth the entry fee!

A random # will be generated so I won't be actually "picking" the best post or anything.  I will leave this open until next week and then do the drawing.

Thanks for tuning in and take a look at MFC flies & materials here.  Good luck!

To insert a live link in the comment, which is very helpful, type this code (1st line only) in the comment window:  (sorry, you'll have to type it in)

If I posted this in the comment box, the comment would only say "free giveaway"and when a person clicked on the link, it would take them directly to the Hopper Juan.   Like this:

MFC ties the Hopper Juan

I received a recent batch of Hopper Juans from Montana Fly Company.  Take a look and see what you think.  There have been a few changes and a few tweaks here and there that they took care of.  Now all I need you to do is to ask for them in your local fly shop.  They are available in sizes 8, 10 & 12.  I fish the size 8s most often but the 10s & 12s will work great for the smaller streams.

New Montana Fly Company Stuff

A while back I ordered some thing from MFC.  Some items were back ordered and I never received them.  Well yesterday, I received a small package in the mail.  It was some of the back ordered stuff.  In the package was a couple of really neat items.  One was a MFC fly box.  I ordered this for a donation box but now looking at it, I might just keep it for myself.  The other thing I was surprised to see was a bulk pack of CDC.  Now this isn't just a small package of CDC feathers, it is a bulk pack.  3 grams of the stuff is a lot of feathers! Take a look and next time make sure you give MFC tying materials a look.  They have some good stuff out there.

New MFC threads. Some good stuff

If you get the chance, grab a couple of spools of Montana Fly Company's new threads that they have on the market. I have several rolls in both 8/0 and 6/0. I can honestly say that I really like this stuff. It is small in diameter and when you spin it, it lays flat. I currently use Uni and UTC threads, but this new stuff may work its way into the bobbin more often now. It ties great on the small stuff and the colors are vibrant and true to the label. I just ordered more spools today and can't wait to see the other colors they offer. MFC has lots of cool stuff that I am playing around with now and I hope to report back with other materials, so stay tuned.

Montana Fly Company Ice Emerger

This morning I received a nice e-mail from Adam Trina of Montana Fly Company letting me know that they have replaced the picture of the Ice Emeger that I bitc*&$ about on their website (http://hopperjuan.blogspot.com/2009/09/montana-fly-co-to-carry-ice-emerger.html).  I can now sleep better as it is a true represention to the fly I submitted.  I appreciate that MFC stepped up and made changes needed to not only my fly, but other photos that needed to be a little better.  Thank you Adam & MFC.

Montana Fly Co. to carry the Ice Emerger

So imagine my surprise, when at the FFR last week, opening up the Montana Fly Company catalog and scanning over the new flies for 2010 and seeing the Ice Emerger! What the spank!!
I wish I would have known about this. Well, I guess that's not a totally bad thing, I just wish I would have been given some notice about it. My first reaction was, "they picked it up". "What about the Hopper?" The Hopper Juan was not in there and was not picked for production. Kinda like the overwhelming gold metal favorite sports star that never makes it past the Olympic trials. I thought for sure it would have a chance. My second thought was, "what a sh@&$ picture of the fly. Now honestly, it does look horrible and I wouldn't want to order this fly if I were a shop owner looking to order some new flies for the upcoming year based on this photo in the catalog and web site.

The finished product looked better and I was pleased with what was on display at the show. I made a few comments about this and that and we shall see if they make those adjustments. The variation that I sent in was the Ice Emerger Baetis-with a chocolate body and Callibaetis Ice Dub wing as opposed to the thread body shown above. So look for it in your local shop and make sure you try some out next spring on the BWOs.
