Randy's Baetis Nymph, #20

Randy's Baetis

Start by tying in wood duck /mallard tails and dub body.

Tie in some legs by using same material as tail.  Cut to length about even with the hook point.
Tie in the wingcase.  Use black colored Tyvek material.  This is about 2mm wide.
Cut to length.  Again, about even with hook point.
Dub over the tie in point to make head.
Finish off with whip finish.
Tie a dozen of these and wait for a cloudy day to take to nearest stream and try them out.

  1. These look awesome, I'll have to give it a go.

  2. Brain,

These are so easy to tie, you'll be able to crank out a bunch in no time. Let me know how they work for you.

  3. Always with long tails or can you mix it up?

  4. Jim,

You can tie this how ever you want. I would try using olive Hungarian Partridge for the tails and legs. You could even try using antron.

  5. What a great, quick, effective fly! Awesome!

I was on a Nebraska trout stream last week, overcast calm day. I was slaying the trout on a size 20 Barr's Emerger wet. I imagine this would have hammered the fish, too!

  6. Where do you get the tyvek material?

    1. You can get the material off of a Fed Ex shipping bag, which are free!
