When the water is high and dirty, go dark and have fun! 2010 photo |
The water was higher and pretty murky compared to the previous days and weeks. The caddis were not hatching and it was too bright and windy for the BWOs to come out, but as the day went on, I caught fish. It wasn't easy, but when the water is dirty, throw streamers. It was fun and I moved a ton of fish. The thing with throwing streamers is that you see 2-3 times the amount of fish than nymphing, but the hook-ups can be scarce. I had enough fish on that it was not a bad day. To finish the day off, I was able to throw some #20 dries to some rising fish on BWOs as the day ended dark and cool. I didn't take any pictures today, and I apologize for giving you a story with no pictures, because I think blog posts are worthless without pictures! So even though the day was not perfect and I worked hard for fish, the day ended with rising fish and a G2 in my hand. I guess I can't complain.
Found your Vimeo tying videos and am really enjoying them. Thanks for taking the time to make and post them ... --Matt
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. I hope they keep you busy for a while! Let me know if you have any requests.
DeleteI'm almost glad I didn't go this weekend. Hoping that things are better this coming week.
ReplyDeleteIt sould be good this coming weekend. The water should be clear by today.
DeleteDon't be afraid to get out in bad water/ weather!
Here in Tennessee, I love high water times because it keeps most other people off the water. Still great fishing to be had though! Throwing streamers is always a blast and it looks like you found enough fish to keep it interesting.
ReplyDeleteVery true! There weren't
Deletea lot of people out and it was still a good day. I don't throw streamers as much as I used to, but it is still just as fun.
Juan,
ReplyDeleteWhat type of streamers do you throw?
Just plain or crystal black buggers usually. I did throw some zonked type flies in about a size 10, so those were not too big. I also make sure I have some type of weight above the fly to get it deep. I was casting either downstream, along the undercuts or walking upstream and throwing across stream and retrieving at a 45 degree angle or so. It is super fun and those browns love to follow and then hit. I love it!
ReplyDeleteJuan, do you sell the hopper kits like you had at the fly fishing show? Do you sell any other kits?
ReplyDeleteHoward,
Deletei have a few left. Shoot me an e-mail if you need some. That is the only kit I have, but of course, I will help you if I can!
