Nice legs at Target.

No, not those legs.  As I was walking around Target today, I ran across this.  A rubber Koosh Ball.
Koosh Ball
The first thing that came across my mind was "those would make really nice hopper legs".  At a $1.00, I couldn't pass it up.  When I got home, I took the wire binding the thing together and proceeded to tie up some Choas Hoppers using these new legs.  The rubber strands are square so the legs come out a lot better than the rubber legs when knotted.  The length is just about perfect for most hopper legs and the color is great.  They come in various colors so you can tie up just about any weird looking hoppers with legs you want.  As a fly tier, I just couldn't pass it up.

After taking it apart.
New legs ready to go!

  3. Thanks, Juan, have picked up those balls of rubber more than once and set them back down. Never crossed my mind for hopper legs, etc. That is why you are the "Hopper Juan"!

  5. Some of my friends have been using those for years. I'll have to try it. Have you ever tried the duster material from the $1 store for clousers? It works. Not as good as bucktail but it works in a pinch.

    1. Make sure to post some photos on your site too. I check that one out to see what you are up to and I am jealous of all your days on the water. Show me some pictures of these legs hanging out of some Yellowstone fish.

  8. You're every bit as bad as I am Juan! The wife tells me that she's going to make some ear rings and is headed for the local bead store. Then our Schnauzer and I get into a dog fight over who gets to ride shotgun. Finding cool stuff for the fly bench can even perk up a trip to Walgreens!
