I'll have to try this.

So when you have lots of flies to tie, what better to do than play around and see what you can come up with?  Here is my latest creation I think will be a winner.  It comes from an idea that I have been playing around with on a straight shanked hook.  I'll need to tie a few more and put them on the water.  But for now they look good enough to eat.

  1. Love it! Almost an Airhead like LaFontaine used to tie, but the rubber legs really make it look buggy!!!

  6. I was out on the water yesterday but didn't test these out. There was no caddis out and no fish rising. I guess I will just have to get out again and so some testing!
The underwing is CDC. I hope this helps keep it up a bit longer. I also tied some with just CDC for the wing and will have to try both.

After looking at the balloon caddis, it is very similar, besides the obvious legs and different body material. I've tied these in straight shank hooks and made the switch to a curved shank hook hoping to submerge the butt of the fly for an emerging pupa style. Darn, just when I thought I had a new pattern...back to the vise!
